At last night’s AGM, the Club were delighted to present The President’s Trophy to Chief Marshal Nick Stafford.

The trophy dates back to the days when Aintree Racecourse owner Mirabelle Topham was the Club’s President and former recipients include the late Derek Bennett, founder of Chevron Racing Cars and race and championship organiser, Ian Smith.

ACC Chairman, Mike Ashcroft said “Nick has undertaken a huge amount of responsibility and work for the Club this year, particularly with the on-event operations at our new Autosolo and even more so with the Motorfest, as well as his work with our supported charities for 2012, the North West Air Ambulance and the Blood Bikes.

One of the highlights this year was the spectacular approach and landing of the NWAA Helicopter, which arrived precisely at the 11am opening of the Motorfest!, which was entirely down to Nick’s persistence and hard work”

After three months behind the scenes work, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the last Grand Prix to be held [...]

After three months behind the scenes work, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the last Grand Prix to be held at Aintree in July 1962, Aintree Circuit Club organised exclusive filming at the racecourse of the Lotus type 25 Formula 1 Grand Prix car. This was the type of car that Jim Clark won the race in 1962 and the very car that he won the world championship in 1963.

In 1962, however, he was beaten to the world championship by….Graham Hill.

Damon talks about the historical significance of Aintree’s Motor Racing heritage and his fond boyhood memories of Jim Clark.
Special thanks to Andy Middlehurst and Classic Team Lotus , Helen Brown - Producer - Sky Sports F1 HD , Emma Owen of Aintree Racecourse and last but not least, Damon Hill for driving and reflecting on Aintree’s forgotten Formula 1 heritage.
